RE: reverse osmosis

Sully, Why do people live anywhere? We might ask why some live in the cold and snow, but they do, and are happy. I think the main attraction for snow birds to Yuma is the great weather{in the winter} the summers are just too hot. That is why we have a home on wheels. The water in Yuma is mostly from ground wells and has a lot of minerals in it,which are easily removed by the RO process. In some parts of the area water comes from the Colorado river, and is no better than the ground water. People in Yuma live just as long as people anywhere else,I don't think the water is a serious health issue, it just tastes bad from all the minerals and salts. Some minerals are beneficial, but most are not. I don't think the zoning laws or the health police would permit unsafe water being used too close to a treatment plant. A properly designed sewer treatment plant discharges cleaner water than a typical well or stream. I think just the idea of drinking "sewage water" is what turns most people off. For about $200. I have an onboard RO system that gives me purer water than about 98% of the country, and I an using the dreaded Yuma water to start with. Al C ... My "problem" is this. IF the water is so BAD..why do so many flock there or live there to start with. I sure wouldnt hang around long in any spot where the available drinking water was just downstream from the sewage treatment plant!!

RE: reverse osmosis

This is a common misunderstanding with returning the water to the fresh tank. It is not getting continually more concentrated,as you would normally use it for any purpose, it must be replaced, introducing new water to the fresh tank. This keeps the concentrations from being too great. Even then, if your membrane is still functioning it will remove 96-98% of whatever concentrations of what you have. Al C The problem with returning the waste to the fresh tank is the level of contamination just goes up and up and up .. Till you dump and re-fill the tank

RE: wheelbase measurement for tag axle?

If the tag is down, the wheelbase is between the tag and drive to front axle. If the tag is up, it is centerline to centerline front to drive. Al C Is it measured to drive axle or tag axle?

RE: reverse osmosis

Being in a park is not possible for many that like to boondock, and then the only practical way is to reuse the waste water to the fresh tank, and,as noted earlier, this is an acceptable practice. A whole house system is not too practical in a boondock situation, we just RO treat the kitchen and ice maker water. We use a Shurflo pump that puts out 55- 60 psi and it works fine. Al C We put in a whole system RO in our coach as we spend a lot of time in South AZ. and Mexico. The water in Yuma will eat the zinc in you hot water tank in three months. Our system is supposed to be one good gallon to three wast. We put the wast water on the ground at the bottom of trees in the park. (saves the park watering them) Having good pure water is critical as the DW is a cancer patient and has a low immune system. She loves the system as it is consistent. Coffee is always good the hot water doesn't smell like rotten eggs and no water spots in the shower or dish washer. The water isn't wasted it goes back into the ground where it came from. We installed a "pressure pump" into the osmosis membrane that produces eighty Lbs. so the membrane is very efficient.

RE: Power chip available?

The 460 is a gas engine. Al C Do any of the companies offer a power chip for the early (1996) Ford 460's?

RE: reverse osmosis

Your example is a more accurate method than my flawed example of the % of the %, but the intent was ro show how effecient the RO membrane is compared to a regualr filter. Al C I got the impression that the 98% figure was more of a concentration of the "dirty" water in the fresh water tank, not rejection %%%. bumpy Well, this is the procedure I use to check TDS in my system from the directions that came with my meter. First draw a sample of tap water, then draw a sample of ro water. On my system here in Yuma AZ. the tap water tested at 581 ppm, the ro tested at 21 ppm. the method to determine this is to subtract the ro # from the tap #, then divide the original tap # by the second #. If you use my example #'s that would be, 581 minus 21 = 560, 560 divided by 581 = 96.38554 % or 96% rejection ratio. The water quality in Yuma is not good to begin with so the ro has to work harder and IMO that is why I get a slightly lower %.

RE: reverse osmosis

Returning the "waste water" back to the fresh tank is a viable and safe option, then you won't waste any water. BTW, you need not "resort" to RO, just use it as a first choice, it is cheaper and more effecient than a gang of filters. My system which is 98% effecient, cost $159.00 and is good for 80 gallons a day. At a 98% ratio, the returned water is 2% of 2% of the original water. {0.0004%} We repace the element about once a year, as indicated by our TDS meter that came with the kit. We travel a lot, {that's why we bought the motorhome} and want good water any place we go. We never stay home for fear of bad water. Al C Id gang chain 50 water FILTERS together before Id resort to RO ( except as Rich said..on a boat) If I cant get anything short of raw sewage healthy enough to con sume...Id fall back and stay home ( I know the water quality here!)

RE: 6.7 ISB what MPG are you seeing with these?

12.3 MPG is amazing! Are your calculator batteries ok? Al C My calculated gas mileage over the last 4000+ miles is 12.3 MPG.I hope you DON'T get any "gas" mileage with a DP!! Gasoline and high compression diesels don't play well together! :B

RE: Where to find 31' wiper blade refills

Yes, the five foot wiper blades use a Briggs and Stratton gas engine to power them. Al C Boy, I'd hate to have to find one of those 4' or 5' wiper blades that some of the Monoco's must use.

RE: When Prevost MH shows up here, grown men cry! True Story

I believe this to be an urban legend. Al C Recently I had a conversation with a "friend" (would like to keep his/her identity unknown) that works at a large desert testing facility. They test on road, off road and military vehicles. I was told Prevost brings in brand new units(s) to find out what will break and for them to put it in the 'sand' wind tunnel! The tunnel is calibrated to spit out sand to duplicate Southwest sand storms. Nice way to sand blast! Reminds me I was told a long time ago Rexall takes MHs out in the desert with slides out to see if they leak sand in.

RE: Where to find 31' wiper blade refills

Spares at that price seems like a good idea, but the rubber compound has a shelf life and will harden and go bad just sitting in a box. Al C Mine came with 31" blades, and I could NOT find refills anywhere. And, I did NOT want to pay $80 for the blade assembly, not to Newmar nor to Camping World. I found some Anco 28" blade units at O'Reilly's which I carefully inspected and discovered that I could modify slightly in order to attach them to my wiper arms. I paid $20 for the pair. At that price, I will probably buy another pair to carry with me.

RE: DP MPG increasing modification

It is nothing more than a fan clutch, and it does work, only not as much as claimed. Al C Per Lazy Days: "Monaco Coach has approved new fuel saving cooling package modifications to 2006-2009 model year motor homes equipped with certain rear radiator Cummings 360 and 400 HP engines as well as Caterpillar C-9 engines." Per the article these modifications will improve fuel efficiency by up to 11% to 29%. Installation will take 2-3 hours and cost $650 to $1200. I am thinking its some kind of temp clutch on the cooling fan ?

Just don't read it and leave your sarcasm at home. Al C Thanks , but I don't come here for the weekly business report , nothing I can do about their situation.

RE: Heat Pumps

The heat pump has an outside ambient temp sensor and will shut down operation at about 35 degrees F. Operation below that point is ineffecient and hazardous to the compressor. It does "know" and care what the ambient temp is. Al C Again, No. Why would you think so. It doesn't know what the temp is and doesn't care.

RE: 2005 ALADDIN Tank Level Interface Module Calibration

Yes, here is an idea... Forget the Aladdin junk, buy the Seelevel and be done with it. Even if you get it calibrated it won't last. Al C I went back outside and drained the fresh water tank. Next I entered the new "RAW" fresh water setting (30) into the Aladdin system. I filled the water tank to about 25% full and the Aladdin System now states I have 330Gs or 330% full...obviously way off..any ideas what to do?

Your post is a little oxymoronic... How can we tell you anything without pointing out the faults? like no CCC, poor mileage, etc. Al C Does anyone know anything about the Siena Motorhome? Please don't flame them.

RE: NADA Price Guide

Your "RV salesperson" is wrong, don't you know about salespeople yet? Al C I was visiting with a RV salesperson the other day and he told me that there is no such thing as MSRP. They are printed by the dealer at the dealership at whatever prices they feel they can move. Think about it, is a generator or a fridge or even an awning an "option"? Dave

RE: Toyo vs Michelin

You and Don Don are on the same page. Research some more if you want the true story. Sully pretty much covered it. Al C I am just adding my 2 cents here. Alot of people say they will trust what the truckers trust. Your Rv even in the largest form is not and over the road truck weighing in at 80,000 pounds and driving around 100,000 miles a year. What works for the semi is not really going to work for the rv. It is not just the ride. Every one knows Michilin had some sidewall problems but I would assume that this has been corrected. Rv tires tend to sit and that is really where the problem comes from and to many people run them at minium inflation or under inflated. I live in Dayton and every time I drive to columbus or cincinnati I can count at least two or three motorhomes that I can see with my eyes that are underinflated and easly overloaded. If I was buying again I would never buy from a company that is stating not recommend for a rv, there is a reason they are stating that. Also Toyo right on their website states not recommend for a rv. Don't trust the tire salesman Texan as he may never have been on their site. I just looked and it is right there

RE: 2005 ALADDIN Tank Level Interface Module Calibration

The seelevel is the only long term cure for the Alladin random number generators. Even if you get them working, it is only a matter of time and they are off again. Al C I finally gave up and purchased the SeeLevel system with the Aladdin interface at the FMCA conventon in St Paul. Is has worked flawlessly so far.
